Herb Yost Bio

In August 1955, I began teaching and coaching at McLean High School until Spring of 1962.  In those years I taught Health and Physical Education, Biology, Driver Training and was a counselor for several years.  It was a great experience being head football coach, JV baseball coach and track assistant.  In those years, the faculty's basketball team, "The Bald Eagles," was popular and it was fun to play with other county school faculties.

In 1956, our football team, then know as McLean Eagles, was "UNDEFEATED" only in our second year.  There was tremendous pride and support for this team in the area, and these are treasured memories.

During our years at McLean, my wife Betty and I chaperoned many sock-hops and school trips.  Those were fun times.

In 1959, our first son, Jeff, was born and in 1962, Greg was born.  They both went into teaching.  We are very proud of them and their families, including six grandchildren.  On July 1, we hope to celebrate Anniversary #53.

In December 1962, George C. Marshall opened, after being on half-day schedule at McLean for part of that time.  Many staff members transferred to Marshall and I left to go there as Athletic Director until retirement in 1982.  Those years were the beginning of a new chapter in our lives filled with long days and nights of all student activities.

Those of us who were there at McLean in the beginning know that very special feeling of coming together in harmony and have many lasting friendships from those years.  The great students, faculty, and staff were the best!

To the organizers of the Reunion of 2003, you are to be commended for your commitment and dedication to this event and we appreciate your undertaking this joyful time for so many.

We look forward to renewing our ties, with great anticipation and excitement, on Saturday evening July 12.  Your gracious invitation to be your guests is very thoughtful and truly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Herb & Betty Yost
